Moon Review

01/05/2019

Moon, directed by Duncan Jones, is a slick, low-budget thriller that steadily delivers twists and turns throughout its reasonable hour and a half run time. The movie is carried by an excellent original story by Duncan Jones, director of Source Code. The word "original" is key here, because Hollywood is in a severe drought of this precious element. There is one actor on camera, and Sam Rockwell easily carries the weight of the film on his shoulders. He portrays a character who is at the end of his rope, transmitting emotions from both ends of the spectrum. Kevin Spacey also lends his voice to an Artificially Intelligent robot, and is just as much of a presence as any of the human characters. One of the few downsides of this movie is the bland set in which the audience spends most of the film. The director films with such phenomenal cinematography, however, that this is easy to overlook. This hard sci-fi flick stays within the realm of what is possible, and keeps the audience thinking long after the credits. With immaculate cinematography, an excellent, albeit simple story, and powerful acting, Moon solidifies itself as a small scale sci-fi film that will be remembered.

I give it an 8.1/10
